Carnival in the Historic Centre of Paraty!

Come and live a party like no other: Paraty Carnival! Paraty celebrates carnival in a very different way from Rio de Janeiro. Carnival here includes a Sea Carnival, Carnamar, the regular Carnival and the now famous Bloco da Lama (Mud Group) parade. Bloco da Lama (Mud Group) is a Paraty carnival classic. On the Saturday of Carnival, thousands of people get covered in the medicinal mud of Jabaquara beach and parade mimicking a prehistoric tribe, with rags, bones and yelling "uga, uga, rá, rá!" You can´t miss this parade, there is nothing like it in the rest of Brazil.

Just before Carnival begins, Carnamar, the Carnival of the Sea takes place.
